Courtesy Visit by President of E-JUST, Egypt (August 7, 2014)
Prof. Dr. Ahmed Magdy Ibrahim El-Gohary, President of the Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST), Egypt, visited the Graduate School of Engineering, Kyoto University. He was accompanied by four JICA specialists.
E-JUST is a national university established in 2009 based on an agreement between Egyptian and Japanese governments. It concurs with the value of Japanese engineering educational features and initiates the concept of “class with an appropriate student-teacher ratio; research oriented graduate school; practical and international level of education.” Kyoto University is one of the support universities and has engaged in the dispatch of Engineering faculty members since the establishment of this initiative.
He took office as President of the Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST) on July 1, 2014. He was invited to Japan by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Taking advantage of this opportunity, the visit was designed to activate exchange programs with support universities, such as Kyoto University. They paid a courtesy visit to the President of Kyoto University in the morning at Yoshida campus.
In Katsura campus, Prof. Masahiro Ohshima presented an overview of the programs in the Graduate School of Engineering. Following that, they visited the Medical Engineering Laboratory where Prof. Naohide Tomita welcomed the delegation. They toured the related laboratories thereafter.
At the courtesy visit to the Dean of the Graduate School of Engineering, Dr. El-Gohary extended his thanks to Dean Shinzaburo Ito and Prof. Emeritus Seiichi Nishimoto, for their technical guidance and support in the field of engineering study which has been conducted for 5 years. Prof. Emeritus Nishimoto is a former dean of the Graduate School of Engineering and contributed to the founding of E-JUST. Then, they discussed mutual and specific interests with other concerned researchers for the purpose of promoting academic exchange.
The Graduate School of Engineering is willing to support the establishment of a social science department in E-JUST to promote multi and interdisciplinary education, and research cooperation activities. Our Graduate School aims to contribute to education and research around African and Middle East regions through this Egyptian channel. We intend to establish a main base to implement research activities in the same region. This justifies the significance of the school existence.
